Kickoff 2011

Saturday 19th Feb

9:00 am

.

Islington Baptist Church Hall

.

New students will be streaming onto campus for O-week. Some will be Christian students, looking for a Christian student group. Others will be looking for friendly people, or even free food. All of them need to know Jesus.

.
~ This is something so important it’s worth planning for! ~
.

So many people come to know about NCS during O-week, and we only need to look at our own stories to be reminded of how beneficial the Bible talks, Small groups and WinterCons have been in moving us to love and treasure Jesus Christ as our only Rock and Redeemer.
.
At Kickoff we’ll plan how to welcome them during O-week, and take care of them in the following weeks. We’ll fellowship around God’s word, enjoy some food together, and pray for those that Jesus will be entrusting to us for the most formative years of their faith!
.
.

They will enter Zion with singing;
everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

.
.

Don’t take your eyes off heaven! Come to Kickoff and get PUMPED to do a God-honouring job of welcoming all of your unknown brothers and sisters!

.

Eeek! It’s the Future!

2011 has sprung upon us! All of a sudden we’ve been thrust into the new year, and soon we’ll be back to the books, welcoming new students, powering through Bible Talks, TNT, walk-up, Small Groups, Mission Teams, 1-1′s…

.

It’s overwhelming how much will be going on! So how do we survive the next 12 months? Do we submit ourselves to the onslaught, being pummelled and ‘washing-machined’ through the year? Hardly! Copious amounts of Mother and V? NEVER! No. Instead of 2011 springing upon us, we’ll throw ourselves at 2011. To navigate the year with our heads above water, we need to know where we’re going, and we need to do it together, under our great God. That’s why we’re starting the year with:

Summer Getaway (Feb 8th – 9th)

where we’ll catch up with each other (it’s been aaaages since we were all together at NTE!) whilst beaching, throwing, catching, praying, and hearing from God’s word. It’ll be heaps chilled, relaxing and encouraging… then we have our planning day:

.

Kickoff (Feb 19th)

the Saturday just before O-week. We’ll suss out a plan of attack for the year ahead, unveil committees “2-1 plan”, sort BBQ’s, advertising, welcoming, and eat lunch together. Yum! Facebook event invites will go out, or you can click the above events for more details.

.

Make sure you get amongst it – get on top of 2011 before it gets big on you!

Practical Promoters of Prayer

Self HelpIn the final TNT Prayer Seminar (run by Geoff), NCSers shared practical ways of bolstering our prayer lives. Suggestions ranged from prayer diaries, using “pre-meal grace” as a reminder to pray for other things, and mobile phone prayer-alarms. These are all good, but none of them are the best. They’re 8′s, not 10′s. Bottom line – they’re handy, but they don’t include other Christians and breakfast now, do they? No, no they do not. However, you’re in luck!

Committee Getaway uncovered…

I don’t know if it’s because it’s the first week of the holidays and my brain has turned to mush, or whether it has mushed itself irreparably therefore rendering my entire degree (Communications!) null and void, but I can’t write an opening sentence for this post about the NCS committee getaway for love nor money. OK so neither of those things are actually on offer, but I’m resorting to clichés to prove the point that it isn’t good folks. I could start with a funny anecdote from the weekend but I wanted to explain why we do these annual getaways first. And then I wrote an amusing blarb about how arduous it is being on committee and this is why we need a break sometimes, but the thing is, it can be hard, and I don’t want to pretend otherwise. So, considering I’ve written a whole paragraph, made up two new words and basically said NOTHING we’re just going to assume some basic facts without embellishment. And here they are: 1. Being on Committee is AWESOME. 2. Sometimes it’s challenging. 3. Halfway through the year new peeps join! 4. Thusly we all go away to relax, recuperate and get to know each other and God better.
